I just want to take a moment to pause and reflect and express gratitude for the life of Nelson Mandela (Madiba) and all that he did for this world. As many of you know, Mandela lived much of his life in prison but upon his release changed his life and his image shifted from being wrongfully thought of as a communist sympathizer and terrorist to becoming one of the most beloved political activists our world has ever known.
Madiba stood for racial equality, human rights and combating poverty. As the first black president of South Africa, he fought poverty, reformed healthcare and even initiated investigations into past human rights violations. His later work in life was devoted to international peace, HIV/AIDS research and standing up for children living in poverty. His foundation continues this great work today.
I am thankful every day that peaceful and influential people like Madiba exist and that our world is truly a better place for knowing them. He’s a wonderful example of how one person’s overwhelming positive energy can influence the lives of so many. He will be missed, but his legacy lives on and will continue to touch the lives of people around the world.
